Why Choose Our Orthopedic Care?

If bone, joint or back problems have brought your life to a halt, count on Astria Regional Medical Center to help put you back in motion. The independent orthopedic physicians on the medical staff specialize in treating a wide range of conditions—from traumatic and sports-related injuries, to chronic and debilitating joint pain. So whether you want to reclaim your golf game or just walk up your stairs with greater ease, know that skilled orthopedic care is right here in Yakima and Kittitas County.

Advanced Joint Replacement Solutions

Board-certified orthopedic surgeons on the medical staff at Astria Regional Medical Center specialize in joint replacement of the hips, knees, shoulders and ankles—helping bring relief to those suffering with severe arthritis.

In addition to performing traditional procedures, these specialists use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. That includes MAKOplasty® partial knee replacement, a sophisticated option designed to help you return to your active life without the need for total joint replacement. The procedure is powered by the advanced RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System, which often allows for new levels of precision.

Before the procedure, the surgeon uses computer modeling to map your joint and create an individualized surgical plan. During surgery, only the diseased area of the knee is replaced, sparing healthy bone and surrounding tissue. 3D visualization and real-time data allow for ideal implant positioning and placement.

For you, this level of planning and accuracy may result in a more flexible, stronger and natural-feeling new knee. Other benefits compared to traditional joint replacement may include:

  • Less pain
  • Less scarring
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Quicker return to the life you love

Surgeons also use MAKOplasty as a minimally invasive option for total hip replacement. This technique allows them to prepare the hip socket for a more exact implant alignment, and reduces complications such as excessive wear on the joint, unequal leg length or dislocation.

MAKOplasty® for both partial knee replacement and total hip replacement is typically covered by most Medicare-approved and private health insurers.

Unique Joint Replacement Journey

Astria Regional Medical Center takes a creative approach to the joint replacement journey. Instead of facing surgery and recovery alone, you’ll be part of a small group who support each other every step of the way.

It starts with a pre-op class, where you and your group will learn what to expect through the entire process. After surgery, you’ll check into your own private room on our dedicated orthopedics floor. A physical and occupational therapist will keep you moving while you have everything you need to recover well:

  • Nurses, therapists and technicians specially trained to care for joint patients
  • Your own loose, comfy clothes—no drafty hospital gowns
  • A special lunch for you and your personal coach (friend or family member who lends support through the journey)
  • Daily group therapy where you’ll enjoy the support of your floormates
  • Dedicated Joint Care Coordinator to see you through every phase of care
